Camp Rae
Currently, in our area, families with special needs children and children with multiple disabilities are solely dependent on public schools and early intervention programs for services and treatment. Many of these children need a more intensive, therapy-based approach to their care and education than these programs alone can address; furthermore, due to budget cuts in the state, these programs themselves are being down-sized.
Our plans for Camp RAE 2012 include daily sessions of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy. We will once again have on staff a Special Education Teacher whose lesson plans include specific sensory activities. Since our kids are considered to be medically fragile, we will have a nurse on staff as well.
In addition to the daily routine of therapy and classes (all cleverly disguised as fun!), the 2011 campers benefitted from on-site visits from music and massage therapists, puppeteers, a children's chef, and a fire truck. The campers enjoyed Lynches River County Park nature trails and splash pad. More special activities, talented guests, and exciting experiences are being arranged for Camp RAE 2012.
We hope you will take the time to browse our site and learn more about Camp Rae and its efforts to help those who can't help themselves.
